Upsets Continue
Well well well…I don’t think ANYONE saw that coming. Morocco is proving to truly be the darling of this World Cup. I was not expecting this or hoping for this at all but hey, let the dancing in the streets of Agraba continue. In what was a not entirely exciting quarterfinal match with Portugal (with our boy Ronny riding pine until the 50th minute) the Moroccans took advantage of the chance when it was given. Although the shots on target for both squads were few (3 a piece) the possession game paints a different story with the Portugese keeping hold of the ball 74% of the time to the Moroccans who kept hold of the ball a mere 26% of the time. But at the end of the day possession stats are not what decide games. Goals are, and the Moroccans got what they needed, one magical goal to send what looked to be the most dominant side in the tournament packing and forever robbing Ronaldo of his chance at World Cup glory.
France loves the World Cup and the World Cup Loves France
This one wasn’t so much an upset but more of a toss up. Statistically the Englishmen were more dominant in possession (58%), shots (16) and shots on target (8) but when the French cook the cuisine just comes out better. Such was the case for the go-karter Olivier Giroud (he even looks like a Mario brother). This man is actually incredible objectively (looking past his behavior with models who happen to not be his wife). This dude I feel like upon his moving on from Arsenal in 2018 as they favored Lacazette people thought (even hoped) he would just fade away into irrelevance as a backup striker (no longer the man) . He keeps proving people wrong this man is 36 years old performing at his peak for both club and country. He has 4 goals this World Cup and is the oldest player since Roger Milla in 1990 to score in a world cup knock out round. If France win the World Cup (which I really hope does NOT happen) this man will have a case for the next Ballon D’or if he can keep up the pace for AC Milan and win some honors.
Argentina Vs Croatia
My dream final is not meant to be of Ronaldo vs Messi…but hey at this point I am rooting for Messi to win the World Cup. He already came out and said that this would be his last World Cup. So for how inspiring this man has been over the course of his life he just needs to win. He will then be seen as better than Maradona outright and at the least on par with Pele for best career but in most critic’s opinions better. Although I was sad to see the samba boys sent packing at the hands of the Croats they will make it easier for the Argentines to march to another World Cup final. Croatia is solid do not get me wrong – they have been putting in cohesive team performances with a seasoned side throughout the course of the tournament anchored by vets Modric and Perisic. But yeah Argentina have to win this…I see this being a fairly balanced affair without many goals. Prediction is Argentina 1 – Croatia – 0
France Vs Morocco
The Colonizers versus the colonized. I am sorry but shit came up in my life so I can’t dedicate as much time to this post as I would like. I may need a witch doctor reference from Paul Pogba to get things in order. May the genie grant the wish of a victory to this stubborn Moroccan side. Let the Moroccans get back at those that had conquered them. Prediction Morocco 3 – France -2
